Description
Indications
Noctin (Nitrazepam) is used to support better sleep in adults experiencing:
-
Difficulty falling or staying asleep
-
Insomnia linked to anxiety, stress, or age-related restlessness
-
Sleep issues in patients with cerebrovascular changes
-
Certain conditions such as myoclonic seizures (specialist guidance required)
Always use this medicine only under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Nitrazepam belongs to the benzodiazepine class and is closely related to diazepam. Unlike older sedatives, it helps promote a more natural sleep pattern by raising the brain’s arousal threshold without heavily suppressing normal brain activity. Most people wake up feeling calmer and more relaxed after a full night’s sleep.
Dosage & Administration
Dosage varies by individual needs and age.
-
Insomnia (Adults): Usually 5 mg at bedtime.
-
Elderly or sensitive patients: 2.5 mg may be enough.
-
Severe insomnia: Dose may be increased up to 10 mg at night if clinically required.
Myoclonic seizures (Children):
Typically 0.3–1 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses. Treatment must start with the lowest possible dose to assess response and tolerance.
Never adjust your dose without medical guidance.
Interaction
The sedative effects of Noctin may increase if taken with:
-
Alcohol
-
Other sleep medicines or sedatives
-
Antidepressants (such as TCAs)
-
Morphine-based painkillers
-

Some medicines can also reduce or increase Nitrazepam’s effect (e.g., rifampicin, theophylline, probenecid). Speak to your doctor before combining treatments.
Contraindications

During the first trimester of pregnancy
-

-
Without clinical supervision
